ABOUT US

Hispanic Health Initiatives, Inc. (HHI), incorporated in June of 2000, is a 501(c)3, non-profit, volunteer driven, community based organization, addressing the health needs of the medically under-served populations of Central Florida. HHI is the only Hispanic health agency in Central Florida specifically targeting the Hispanic community. HHI services other minority communities such as the Haitian and Vietnamese populations living in the area.

During the past 7+ years, HHI has provided: health forums, health fairs, health classes, screening events and referrals of free or low cost mammogram, paps and other health services to thousands of Central Florida families, most of which are uninsured or under-insured.

HHI’s programs teach preventive medicine, disease management and behavioral changes known to promote healthy lifestyles. HHI utilizes culturally sensitive and linguistically correct health literature and professionals. HHI referrals to free or low cost medical services link the medically under-served to health services existing in their communities. These services encourage and empower individuals to make informed and responsible decisions about their health.

HHI’s board consists of Hispanic professionals and other community leaders, some trilingual, from various countries. A key to its success is its corps of 75 + volunteers who mirror the community being served. HHI’s seven years plus of leadership in Central Florida has made it the bridge between minority communities of Central Florida and the healthcare providers who serve them. HHI’s services the counties of Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia. However, residents from Hillsboro, Lake and Polk counties come to our programs also.

HHI’s success is derived from its ability to transcend cultural, linguistic and socio-economic barriers thus promoting among the medically under-served, a better understanding of the health care system and among the health care providers, a better understanding of the medically disadvantaged community needs.

In-kind donations by medical and health experts, foundations, individuals, local and federal government grants and pharmaceutical company contributions are some of HHI’s funding sources. Healthcare providers partner with HHI to provide medical services to HHI referrals and at HHI organized screening events. Hispanic medical professionals, experts in their area of chronic diseases, lead our health forums, classes and screening events. They form part of our volunteer cadre. HHI’s FREE health education programs have made it the voice of the Hispanic community; recognized as its herald, by health care professionals, state and local officials and social service agencies.
